Animal Stories | Josh Brown

Out of the many artists that the Shain Gallery represents, Josh Brown has to be one of our absolute favorites. His animal paintings never fail to impress and his latest show Animal Stories opened at the Shain on July 27th.

One of the many things I enjoy about our experiences at the Shain Gallery, are the beautiful floral arrangement that adorn the table in the center of the gallery. Sunflowers couldn’t have been a more perfect choice for this fun animal filled show.
We’d seen several seagull paintings at one of Josh’s previous shows and I was excited to see more paintings featuring them. Makes you want to take a trip to the beach, doesn’t it?

I especially liked how Josh highlighted the giraffe’s legs in this piece giving them more definition.

If you’ve been following theavidpen for awhile, you’ll know how much I love giraffe’s, so you can imagine my excitement as I viewed the pieces below. Their expressions are amazing and I love the speckled backgrounds which set these fun pieces off perfectly.

His expression says, “Whatcha lookin’ at?” or… “You talkin’ to me?” (in Robert de Niro’s accent of course)

I consider Ostrich’s as one of Josh’s signature animals, and I always wonder what color the beaks are going to be next.

You’ll have another opportunity to view new work by Josh Brown in November 17th, so if you’re in the Charlotte area, I’d highly recommend dropping by the Shain Gallery to see the show.
