This Saturday we decided to head up to the mountains to escape the heat. For those of you not from the Carolina’s we are experiencing a heat wave and with the heat comes the oppressive humidity. Give me dry heat any day!
It had been years (literally, I haven’t been to Blowing Rock, NC since I was in high school) so I was excited to see what had changed about this city in the North Carolina mountains.
The drive wasn’t bad one, a little under two hours away and we arrived at our first destination (Chetola Resort) right around lunch time.
Since it was about 30 minutes till the Timberlake Restaurant was due to open, we decided to head into the guest check in and see if we could have a bit of a tour and see one of the available rooms. (We once stayed in one of their condos.)
Now time for lunch at Timberlake’s Restaurant & Pub.
After lunch we decided to walk around the grounds and get some more fresh air before heading to our next destination.
My mum and sister stayed at the Westglow Resort & Spa back in 2012, so my mum wanted to show me around the place to see if I’d like to stay there in the future. From the moment I arrived the answer was definitely yes!
The staff were very friendly and offered us bottle waters before we set off on our tour of the first floor and the grounds.
Now to head back inside to see Rowland’s Restaurant (which is open to the public for dinner.)
Now to check out the views from other side of the house…
One thing I will say is I wouldn’t want to have to take the step exit road out of the resort during the winter… but I’m excited at the possibility of staying there in the spring or autumn seasons!
We headed back to Main Street Blowing Rock to check out Art in the Park… (which wasn’t actually in the park, it was in a parking lot behind it)
After getting serious overheated… we walked over to one of the nearby coffee shops and ordered some much needed ice water to help cool ourselves down as none of the shops had good air conditioning (or it hadn’t been turned on at all.)
On our way back to Charlotte, we stopped off in Hickory to pick up a few things at The Natural Olive.
I purchased some Peach Butter which I will share about on my foodie blog as soon as I’ve had the chance to try it.
Well that was our day in the mountains. I’m very much looking forward to our next day trip!
