Hello, from… Magnolia

While in Texas, my sister, Ashley and her husband, Mike decided to take a little trip to Waco, Texas where the Magnolia Market is located. Ashley has been a fan of Joanna & Chip Gaines (HGTV’s Fixer Upper) for quite a while now, so taking a trip to the Market and staying in THE shotgun house (remodeled in Season 3, Episode 14) was one of the best birthday gifts ever.

Mike drove the 999 miles from the Carolinas to Texas to meet up with Ashley in Arlington and make the trip to Waco… The trip was also the perfect excuse to break in the new Tesla.

Reunited at last!

What was your favorite thing about staying in the Shotgun House? When I found this house on Airbnb for the dates we would be in Waco, it was a dream come true! Having the opportunity to stay in one of the homes remodeled by the Gaines was like stepping into one of the episodes! Everything was gorgeous and very well done. The home owners left cupcakes as a welcome surprise, which was a very sweet touch.

There are so many things to see and do on the grounds of the Magnolia Market, and they planned to make the most of their time, which meant arriving at the market by 8am sharp.

Map of the Magnolia Market

Any trip to the Magnolia Market has to include a visit to the Silos Baking Co, where you can enjoy all sorts of delicious treats from cupcakes and cookies to muffins (I so want one of those Blueberry Crumble Muffins) and cinnamon rolls.

Which bakery treats did you try, and what was your absolute favorite? We bought pretty much all the cupcakes! Our favorite was the seasonal peach cobbler cupcake… which had crumb topping at the bottom of the cake and real peach chunks in the icing. Yum!

There are also other food options around the Market with multiple food trucks ready to entice you with their culinary treats.

Out of all the food trucks there were to choose from, which one did you end up trying out? After great deliberation, we finally chose Cheddar Box. They offer gourmet grilled cheeses and “mac daddies” (aka macaroni and cheese). Mike got “The Boss” which is a grilled cheese with bacon, gouda, and basil on sourdough. I went with “The Happy Couple” which is essentially a you-pick-two with the minted watermelon salad (so refreshing in the Texas heat) and the Mr. T mac’n cheese with lemony rosemary and white cheddar. Now if only they’d open up a location in South Carolina!

Now off to the Market.

Tell us a bit about your experience at the Magnolia Market…

It was everything I had dreamed of and more. They had just redecorated the store for their fall reveal and it was like Anthropologie on steroids. I walked around the entire store taking in all the impressive displays before I could even comprehend buying things. We won’t talk about how much money I spent.

There is also a Seed and Supply shop on the Market Grounds where you can pick up all sorts of unique items to make your little garden area at home you own little garden space just the way you like.

Out of everything that you experienced during your time in Waco, what was your favorite part about the trip? Um… the whole thing. It was magical and glorious and everything was beautiful. A perfect trip for this Fixer Upper addict!
