I’ve been runnin’ my whole life. I gotta put my face to it. – Jane Hammond
So, I’m not much of a Western movie lover. I’ve enjoyed The Quick and the Dead and 3:10 to Yuma, but the main draw for this one was Natalie Portman. It’s a different role than most of the movies I’ve seen her in, in the past (Where the Heart Is, Black Swan, V for Vendetta) so I decided to give it a shot.
Portman plays Jane Hammond, who asks an old flame Dan Frost (Joel Edgerton) for help when her outlaw husband becomes a target of a gang who want him dead.
While the first half of the movie drags a bit, the second half of the movie makes up for it. You learn about what happened after Dan Frost went off to war and why she ended up with John Hammond, a wanted outlaw. After learning the truth, Dan lets go of his misguided resentment towards Jane and they work together towards the enemy, John Bishop (Ewan McGregor.)
Although this isn’t one of the most amazing films I’ve ever seen, I’d definitely recommend it to those who enjoy the Western genre.
