On Saturday evening, we had the amazing opportunity to see the Spring Works Jazz Ballet by the Charlotte Ballet at the Knights Theater. It was the last performance of their 2015-2016 season, and Gloria Rueben (ER) would also be performing.
But first… dinner @ Luciano’s Ristorante Italiano.
While we’re always worried a bit about time, especially since dinner was up the road in South End instead of across the street from the Knight’s Theater, we arrived at the Will Call for our tickets an hour in advance. So we pre-ordered our beverages for intermission, and took a seat on one of the benches in the lobby.
While we weren’t allowed to take pictures during the performance, I do have a rehearsal video to show you from the CLT Ballet’s YouTube Channel.
Here’s the list of the ‘Who Cares’ part of the program which featured music by George Gershwin along with performances by CLT Ballet.
Man I Live (1924) – Alssandra Ball James and Josh Hall
I’ll Build a Stairway to Paradise (1922) Jamie Dee Clifton
Embraceable You (1930) Sarah Hayes Harkins and Josh Hall
Facinatin’ Rhythm (1930) Alessandra Ball James
Who Cares? (1931) Jamie Dee Clifton and Josh Hall
My One and Only (1927) Sarah Hayes Harkins
Liza (1929) Josh Hall
I Got Rhythm (1930) Entire Cast
After an intermission, Gloria Rueben and the MCG Jazz and Jazz Art Initiative took over the orchestra pit for the portion of the program, Bop Doo Wah. The full cast of the CLT Ballet took part in this section of the program and it was so much fun.
It Don’t Mean A Thing (If It Ain’t Got That Swing)
Steppin’ Out With My Baby
How High The Moon
Why I Close My Eyes
My Latin Brother
Sing, Sing, Sing
It Don’t Mean A Thing (If It Ain’t Got That Swing) Reprise
It was a stellar final performance by the Charlotte Ballet and I’m looking forward to their upcoming 2016-2017 season.
