Most people who know me will say that the only reason I wanted to see Pompeii was because Kit Harrington (Jon Snow – Game of Thrones) is in it. Not so. I’ve always had an interest things related to Pompeii. So, it was only natural that I would want to see this movie, despite what the critics reviews may have been.
There were many parts of the movie I thought could have been developed better, but I was pleased with the chemistry between the two leads. (Although, yet again I wish we’d been able to see a bit more of their love story.)
This movie definitely gave you a character to hate. Senator Corvus (Kiefer Sutherland… or Jack Bauer as I always think of him as) definitely made us hate him with every fiber of our being. This was the second time I’ve intensely disliked the character he (Sutherland) played in a movie. Another interesting thing… Milo’s fellow gladiator (opponent turned friend, Atticus) was none other than Mr. Echo from Lost (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje.)
Now for the ending… I know it was inevitable but I found myself hoping that somehow the two lovers would have their chance to ride off into the sunset, but like Romeo and Juliet, their love was doomed to be cut off much too soon.
If you can get past some of the historical inaccuracies in the film, I think you’ll enjoy it. I know I will be watching it again.
