Rainy Sunday…

Just because it’s rainy out doesn’t mean that you can’t have a fun day… It just means that it’s time to curl up and watch some of your favorite classic movies…

This particular rainy Sunday was an ode to one of the greatest directors of all time… Billy Wilder…

First up on my list… The Apartment with Jack Lemmon and Shirley MacLaine… Jack Lemmon stars as C.C. Baxter a hardworking man, who had one thing everyone wants… an Apartment where they can get away from the prying eyes of everyone they know…

Jack Lemmon and Shirley MacLaine

You can’t help but root for him throughout the film… after all why shouldn’t an all around nice guy get the girl…

“This is the city – Paris, France. It is just like any other big city – London, New York, Tokyo – except for two little things. In Paris, people eat better. And in Paris, people make love – well, perhaps not better, but certainly more often. They do it any time, any place. On the left bank, on the right bank, and in between! They do it by day, and they do it by night. The butcher, the baker, and the friendly undertaker. They do it in motion, they do it sitting absolutely still. Poodles do it. Tourists do it. Generals do it. Once in a while even existentialists do it. There is young love, and old love. Married love, and innocent love.”

If that quote didn’t give it away… My next classic on the list is ‘Love in the Afternoon’ starring Audrey Hepburn (my favorite classic actress along with Lauren Bacall) and Gary Cooper (another favorite.)

Gary Cooper, Audrey Hepburn

Gary Cooper plays an aging playboy, while Hepburn plays a young, very innocent cellist, whose father just happens to a PI investigating Cooper.

In effort to stop a jealous husband from shooting Cooper, Hepburn goes to his apartment, and poises as his lover… thus capturing the attention of Cooper…

Through the course of the film… Cooper falls in love and finds that sometimes settling down isn’t the worst thing in the world…
