The Fearrington | Day 2

December 21st, 2015

There is something about sleeping in a comfy bed that really starts off your day right. While I sleep on a pullout couch in my writing studio/bedroom I long for the day when I can have space for a the bed I’ve always dreamed of. Another plus to vacation is that I don’t have to be up before the sun rises!

Around 9:30 we left our room and headed over to the Fearrington House Restaurant for breakfast. (Note: Breakfast every morning and tea from 4-5pm every day of your stay is included.) We’d noticed that there were quite a few squirrels around the inn’s grounds, and I had hoped to get a picture of this little guy while he was sitting nicely on the path. However, despite my rush to get my iPhone out of my handbag, I only ended up catching him mid retreat.

Squirrels were everywhere, and we caught this one mid leap.
Apparently he had somewhere very important to get to.

It’s hard to say what I enjoy more, the afternoon teas or the breakfasts. They offer you a selection of pastries to enjoy with your tea/coffee and juice before your meal arrives. I always go with the bran muffins because I’ve yet to meet a bran muffin better than the ones @ The Fearrington. (Mum even bought the recipe book so we can try making them sometime.)

Usually I have to have the crab/mushroom/goat cheese frittata at least once during my stay. There literally are no words for how delicious it is. They also accommodate any dietary issues, which would be the whole dairy thing for me.

I know it might be a bit odd to drink Chamomile tea first thing in the morning, especially because it tends to relax me more than wake me up for the day, but there’s something about a nice cup of tea with your breakfast.

After breakfast we headed over to Dovecote to have a bit of a look around before heading over to McIntyre Books.

After looking around for some books to look through, we headed over to the seating area, and got tucked up in the sofa in front of the crackling fireplace. Ahh…

After selecting our books, we decided to pick up some lunch @ La Farm Bakery over in Cary, North Carolina (about 30 minutes away) and bring it back to the room. We’ve only been to the French bakery once before on my first trip to the Fearrington, and when we got there it was even busier than we remembered.  However, the moment you step foot through the front door you get a breath of fresh pastries, crepes and other goodies being enjoying by the patrons and thought a little less about just how long the line to the front register actual was.

We also picked up our movie selections for the evening which would begin with Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit and end with Arthur. (I had planned to introduce mum to these ages ago.)

After eating our lunch we curled up on our beds and watched our movies until tea time.

We opted for the tall tea tables this time around.

Since one of the Belted Cows had gone into labor earlier in the day, I walked around the fence to see if I could catch sight of the new baby… Nothing yet… must check again tomorrow… Onto the Sunroom…

It was quite toasty!

Note: If you’re looking to play boardgames during your stay, there are plenty to choose from in this room.

When we got back to the room, we continued on with our movie night…

As 8pm rolled around, we ordered room service. While we’d planned on the amazing Linguine with Marinara and Goat Cheese, the Restaurant is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, so The Granary it was…

Sure sounds like a great place to visit. We need to get up there some day but we’re such home bodies! 🙂
