With so many reasons lately to prioritize healthy habits, you can’t go wrong with leveling up your self-care routine. But where to start becomes the harder issue as there are so many avenues of self-care. From fitness to clean beauty to mental health and mindfulness, there’s clearly no “right” or “wrong” way to practice.
Luckily there are a few pillars you can rely on to lay a foundation for building your self-care routine. Let’s explore them below.
Prioritize sleep, nutrition, and exercise
You’ve heard it many times, but you might just need to hear it again. Sleep, diet, and exercise are the three keys to proper health. Since it’s nearly impossible to keep up ideal eating habits, sleep schedules, and fitness routines these days, start by focusing on one and build upon it. Set a sleeping schedule and journal your progress or incorporate less time-consuming workouts into your routine. When you pick one area to prioritize, and the others will come more naturally.
Use your support system
Knowing when to reach out for help is key to self-care. If you’re feeling particularly disconnected from your closest friends (as many of us are), schedule a weekly recurring date in your calendar to touch base with them.
If cabin fever is setting in with loved ones, find ways to communicate what you need from them to stay calm and happy. A big part of self-care that’s often overlooked is the simple act of leaning on your loved ones without feeling like a burden.
Be kind to yourself
If you haven’t felt like your usual self during this quarantine, you might fall into the trap of practicing negative self-talk. Instead, take the opportunity to be kind and more patient with yourself. Remind yourself that you’re doing the best you can and reward yourself when you do tell yourself something positive.
Knowing we need to dedicate some of our time to practicing self-care is easy, but actually doing it is the hard part. For the pick-me-up and little inspiration, you need to get started, look to those in the spotlight to convince yourself that self-care is a priority. The folks at Tommy John rounded up self-care tips from some of our favorite self-care savvy stars and businesswomen who have publicly shared the power of nurturing their minds and bodies daily. Luckily you won’t need their budget to implement these hacks and can bring some care into your quarantine. Keep reading below for their visual.
