What can I say… July started and then it was over. Has anyone else felt like this about a particular month this year? For me July definitely went by the quickest. One of the most exciting things about this month would probably be that I’ve been able to share quite a few interviews. Getting to talk with artists, illustrators, authors and entrepreneurs about what inspires them and about their creative process will never get old for me. I have literally created over 100 questions for the collective interviews that I’ve done this month!
Quite a few of my Instagram highlights for July are centered around the interviews that I’ve shared with you all, and you can read them again via the links I’ve shared below each picture.
One of my interviews for the month of July was with Ann Mah, the author of The Lost Vintage. This book is hands down my favorite book that I’ve read this Summer, and one of the best books that I’ve ever read. You can check out the interview here.
If you love following illustrators on Instagram like I do, Riley Sheehey (@cestriley) is an illustrator that you should be following. She creates whimsy piece often showing beach scenes. She created illustrators from brands such as Ralph Lauren and Vivi et Margot, and you can read more about her in my interview with her here.
I love unexpected finds that lead to interviews… During a recent trip to visit my sister, she took us to The Vestibule Coffee & Tea. Shortly after ordering our drinks, we started a conversation with Isaac Martin (the owner) about the story behind the coffee shops name and why he chose Clinton, SC.
One of the big events for July, was interviewing Katharine Hidell Thomas & Rebecca Brooks who celebrated the 20th anniversary of their Hidell Brooks Gallery. The exhibition which runs through the end of next month features all 45 artists that the gallery represents, and is definitely a must see if you’re planning on coming to Charlotte anytime soon.
Since this is an Art & Lifestyle blog (and a bit of all my favorite things in-between) I tend to share several art posts throughout the month, whether they are about art shows/exhibitions or interviews with some of my favorite artists. This month J. Louis had a new show than ran from it’s opening on July 12th through the end of the month at The Shain Gallery. J. Louis creates figurative abstracts celebrating the female form, include this painting titled ‘The Arc.’
We tried out the amazing Nekter Juice Bar in Southend. Their seasonal Summer Berry Smoothie is out of this world delicious.
Another arrival on the food scene here in Charlotte, is Bulla. Located by SouthPark Mall, Bulla is a must for weekend Brunch. They have so many things to choose from, including a delicious selection of tapas options. Try it out now, you can thank me later. =)
While I haven’t been to Paris yet, this is definitely a book that I want to have with me when I do. It’s filled with information about all the best sites, restaurants and markets to check out while in Paris and has been beautifully illustrated by Jessie Kanelos Weiner.
On another note…
