There are so many things to love about the fall season, especially when it comes to your wardrobe. While spring and summer clothes are full of color and lighter fabrics there’s no reason why your fall wardrobe needs to be drab and boring. In this post I’m sharing about five of my wardrobe obsessions for fall.
The Chunky Sweater
I have a serious love (some might say obsession) with Chunky Sweaters. They are the perfect thing to wear if you’re not a fan of wearing heavy coats the moment the temperatures start to dip (which won’t be for quite a while here in the South). While I love a beautiful tailored coat for a fashion forward, well put together look, they can sometimes feel a bit restrictive. So the chunky sweater is my ultimate choice when it comes to layering for fall. You can go layer a chunky sweater over a tank or dress when it’s just starting to get cooler, or layer a long sleeved top underneath with skinny jeans and boots or booties once it starts getting seriously chilly. When we went to our first trip Fall trip to Virginia a few years ago there was a serious cold snap and I literally lived in my chunky knit cream poncho (just add a long sleeve top and belt to keep the warmth in.)
The Sweater Dress
I have several jewel toned sweater dresses that I’ve kept in steady rotation the past few years, but I recently added a new sweater dress from the Chriselle Lim Collection. The Sawyer Sweater Dress comes in two colors, but I’m loving the ivory (aka winter white) It’s so cozy, and as soon as the weather is cooler I can’t wait to show it off here on the blog.
The Trench Coat
I’ve always been a fan of the trench coat. They’re perfect for an added layer of warmth when it’s still in the 50-60’s during the day, i.e. it’s not too chilly but there’s just enough coolness to need an extra layer over your favorite floral or pattern dresses.
Adding a trench (especially like one of the options below) instantly elevates any look for fall. I’m currently looking at one of these trenches in a neutral that will go with all of my Fall dress options. It’s up to you whether you go with an investment piece if you’re planning to wear it for more than one season or a trench coat at a lower price point if you’re only interested in wearing it for a season and moving on.
I bought my first Blazer a few years back, but since the blazer has become more popular (not just as suiting option but over jeans etc) I’ve added two blazers to my collection. A navy blazer that I’m planning to wear as part of a nautical look for fall and I recently added a grey herringbone blazer that I’m planning on layering with a white colored blouse and crew neck sweaters over jeans. Blazers can also be layered over dresses, both fun florals and sleeveless sheath dresses when you’re headed into the office.
There’s no doubt that both of these shoe options have become increasingly popular. I’ve added two loafers to my collection this year. A neutral pair that be worn regardless of season (although I debuted them in the spring) and a pair of black loafer slides that I’m looking forward to wearing with the grey blazer that I mentioned above. Since I wear primarily where heels during the fall/winter (especially when it comes to my boots and booties) I decided it would be a good idea to have a few pairs of flats to mix things up a little.
