Seeing The Sound of Music live on stage has always been something we’ve dreamed of seeing, and the Saturday after Thanksgiving we finally made it. My sister and brother-in-law joined us for the show and the Blumenthal’s Belk Theater which was an absolutely packed for the matinee performance.
The book for the show was by Lindsay & Crouse whose goal was to bring back the original Broadway production back to the stage with the music by Richard Rodgers and the Lyrics by Oscar Hammerstien II.
Both the cast and the sets really brought the familiar story to life, with songs we remembered from the film as well as some new ones as well. Maria (Jill-Christine Wiley) did a amazing job with the role and the von Trapp children filled the stage with their infectious energy and talent. Plus the chemistry between Maria and Captain von Trapp (Mike McLean) was electric.
On another note, one of the actresses who impressed us with her vocals was Lauren Kidwell who played the role of The Mother Abbess. Her voice filled the entire theater during her numbers!
I definitely recommend this show, which is coming to the Carson Center in Kentucky next.
