My little bakery offers no better place to feed the senses; as soon as you enter, the aromas, sounds, and atmosphere take you to a small corner of France. – Chef Slyvain Rivet
Francophiles and French pastry lovers now have something more to love about Charlotte. Renaissance Patisserie has just opened up their location in the Specialty Shops Southpark and it’s the perfect spot to sit and people watch in the cozy courtyard seating area. Plus, the patisserie offers more than just pastries, so why not enjoy pick up a fresh baguette, have a slice of quiche or a soup/sandwich before you indulge your sweet tooth.
The patisserie has both inside and outside seating, with advantages to both. Sit inside and have a view of the pastries being made in the kitchen, or sit outside on the courtyard and get some fresh Carolina air while you people watch. So just grab the wooden spoon with your number on it at check out, and decide for yourself.
The first dessert we picked up was the Chocolate Mousse. It’s creamy, decadent and yet not too rich, essentially it’s a chocolate lovers dream. So don’t feel guilty if you eat it all at once. I won’t judge.
This was my first time having Opera Cake, and for those of you who are wondering what’s inside those delicious layers, it’s cake (usually almond but in this case yellow cake) that’s been soaked in coffee. In between the cake are layers of buttercream and chocolate ganache before finishing it with a chocolate glaze on top. I loved the presentation of this decadent cake, with gold leave added to the top and a swirl of ganache. Definitely something to go back for.
My reason for picking up the Mini Ombre Cake goes without saying… it’s PINK and not just one hue, every layer is a different color with creamy mousse in between. Plus it’s topped off with a pink butterfly giving it a fun and feminine finish. We popped this cake in the refrigerator when we got home, but I definitely suggest letting it set up for a little while if you like the mousse to be extra creamy.
Since we had quite a few stops to make after our first visit to Renaissance Patisserie, we picked up our goodies to go, but we definitely look forward to visit again. I have my eye on one of their fruit tarts, and perhaps a signature éclair!
