There’s no question that the winter months can be a bit blah. Not only do you have to deal with the winter blues (thanks to cold weather which is often overcast), but we’re also dealing with cold & flu season which no matter how you feel about germs is best to avoid at all costs.
For this reason I find myself wanting to stay in more on the weekend versus heading out to explore. So more my mom and I have been finding different ways to pamper ourselves throughout the weekend.
Need some tips on the best ways to rest, relax and repeat? In this post I’m sharing my top 5 ways!
Mask it up
While I don’t like to admit it, since I’m a very strong advocate of skincare, I often find myself skipping my daily skincare rituals during the week reserving them for Friday nights in or during the weekend. The wonderful thing about skincare masks, whether they are peel off, wash off or sheet masks is that you go about your activities around the house whether it’s making dinner or doing housework without having to worry about them.
My current favorite is the Lift Off Purifying and Brightening Peel Off Mask from Wander Beauty a cruelty free beauty and skincare brand that has been my ultimate go-to. The mask is a lovely berry color (which could surprise your furry companions and your human ones without a little warning) and is full of antioxidants that will detox and brighten your skin.
I just apply a light even layer (make sure you use enough to make it easy to remove) and leave on for 10-15 minutes (or until dry) before removing. I also like to use it to spot treat on my T-Zone which is are where my mostly dry skin tends to get a little oily and congested.
Facial steam
I absolutely love my facial steamer. It’s definitely a skincare essential, and when used with essential oils, you can add even more benefits to the experience. For my skin it’s ideal for use once a week, but if I’m feeling congested I can use eucalyptus to help open up my passages… or if I need to relax my roman chamomile and lavender are my go-to for essential oils. Cuddle Time
I can’t even begin to fully convey how much our lives have changed since we rescued my Russian Blue cat Gracie just under 1 year ago. From day one she was a cuddler. So each day both my mom and I take a little time for kitty cuddles which can be so therapeutic. So whether you’re a cat or a dog person spending a little extra time with your furry companion can be beneficial for the both of you.
Up with Chocolate
Last year I shared an interview with the founder of Beauty Bar Chocolate Candice Puthawala and this month she released the beauty bar that I’ve been looking forward to for months. The Sweet Dreams Bar is full of lavender, magnesium, L-Theanine & Bamboo Slica (boosts collagen) and is the perfect chocolate bar to snack on for a more relaxed night sleep. As a lover of all things lavender and after doing a bit of reading on the benefits of L-Theanine (a amino acid found in tea) and couldn’t wait to try it.
Lavender — for stress relief and a peaceful night sleep
Bamboo Silica — full of immune boosting vitamins & minerals, promotes collagen for healthy hair, skin and nails
L-Theanine — a amino acid that promotes calm, relaxation and improves mood
Magnesium — a minerals that calms the mind/body and helps digestion (aka the ultimate win/win)
Read a book
As I love binging my favorite shows sometimes you just need to curl up with a good book. I’m currently reading The Vineyards of Champagne, The Words I Never Wrote and The Insecure Girls Handbook.
