I should probably begin by saying that when it comes to skincare devices I usually obsess over them for a few months before I actually buy them. I go back and forth about not only the price point and quality of the product, but also whether on not I can actually see myself using it.
From the moment I saw the Aera Facial Steamer by Vanity Planet I knew that I wanted it. With the option to either use the steamer with or without essential oils (there are three extra baskets included with the steamer for use with an essential oil of your choice and to prevent mixing your oils) I liked having the ability to just go with an unscented steam, or use an an essential oil that would have added benefits.
Recommended Essential Oils
(fights anxiety, promotes calmness, allergy reliever, helps inflammation, dermatitis, good for sensitive skin)
(clears congestion and helps with acne)
(tones the skin)
(relaxing, good for dry skin and eczema)
(improves mood, unblocks pores, brightens dull skin)
(good for oily skin)
Jojoba Oil is ideal for use after you’ve done your facial steam and helps to not only deeply moisturize the skin but it also reduces wrinkles and helps protect the skin from environmental toxins.
Another thing to love about this facial steamer is the fact that it’s so easy to use. Just fill the removal water tank with distilled water (tap water will cause icky build up that you do not want to deal with) to the recommended line, pop it back in and push the power button. It takes 1 minute for the water to heat and and after 2 minutes it’s ready to use. The Aera Facial Steamer will run for 15 minutes or until the water runs out (whichever comes first).
Important Things to Remember
Wash your face before with a gentle cleanser so that your skin can receive all the benefits of your facial steam.
Keep your eyes closed so that you don’t risk any irritation from the steam.
Stay at least 6-10 inches away from the steamer
Always read through the directions included with your facial steamer!
Following Your Facial Steam
Rinse your face and pat dry
Apply your skincare routine (including serum and moisturizer)
To get even more out of the experience use your facial roller or gua sha help the products fully absorb into your skin.
The products that I’m currently loving during my evening routine
My current favorite serum to use is Glass Skin by Peach & Lily. Once the serum is absorbed follow with a moisturizer. The Burt’s Bee’s Aloe Hydrating Stick is great if you’re in a hurry, or you can try out the Overnight Sleeping Mask by Peach & Lily that can be used instead of your usual moisturizer.
How often should you use a facial steamer
It’s recommended that you use a facial steamer once a week, although Vanity Planet recently suggested using the steamer 2-3 times a week. I always use my facial steamer at the start of a new week (aka perfect Sunday afternoon spa session) but if you find that your skin is looking dull and congested mid-week… well it’s time to steam again!
