2 New Fiction Releases to Bring on Your Next Vacation

Planning a vacation and need to narrow it down to two books to take along with you. Something Wilder by writing duo Christina Lauren (The Unhoneymooners) and Metropolis by B.A. Shapiro (The Art Forger) was released today.

I had a chance to get a first look at both books and let me tell you these books will hook you in and won’t let you go until the last page. Something Wilder takes you on an unexpected treasure hunt with so many twists and turns you’re never sure who to trust.

Metropolis gave me an Only Murders in the Building vibe, except it’s set in a storage warehouse versus being an actual apartment building. We meet a diverse set of characters whose lives are changed when an accident happens, but was it really an accident?

Something Wilder

Lily Wilder had her whole life planned out, running the family ranch, and living with the man she loved for the rest of her life. But things don’t always turn out according to plan, especially when you’re only nineteen years old. Her father, Duke Wilder, a modern-day Indiana Jones and local legend has dreams of his own, including finding the long-lost fortune of Butch Cassidy. When he sells the ranch, and the man Lily loves returns to New York, Lily finds her life completely upended.

Ten years later, Lily is giving fake treasure hunts through the canyons of Utah to make ends meet, with her dreams of buying back her family’s ranch always out of reach. Her world is turned upside down once again when the latest adventure group arrives and with them Leo Grady.

Something Wilder was the first book I’ve read by literary duo Christina Lauren, and I have to say that I’m impressed. It was one wild ride from beginning to end, and just when you thought you’d figured out every twist that they could throw at you, another one comes with a turn of the page. Definitely, a must-read book for those who enjoy reading books with hidden treasures and second chances. Order on Amazon.

Metropolis

B.A. Shapiro

Metropolis introduced me to author B.A. Shapiro’s work for the first time, and the novel features a diverse cast of characters. Serge, a street photographer who lives in his unit; Zach a former drug dealer who owns the Metropolis and purchases everything in Serge’s unit and plans on developing all of the photographer’s undeveloped photos to see what clues they contain. Marta is completing her dissertation while on the run from ICE. Liddy, an abused wife, and mother, who appears to be the cause of the accident; Jason, a lawyer who practices law out of his unit, and Rose, the office manager who takes money under the table from tenants who have no choice but to live in their units.

Throughout the book the story is told through the eyes of these culturally diverse characters, as we wonder, was what happened in the Metropolis an accident, or wasn’t it? Order on Amazon.
