Ever since I was a little girl I have loved afternoon tea. While we would have afternoon tea at home, one of my first experiences was tea at the Fairmount Empress during a trip to Victoria, Canada. Since that time we’ve enjoyed afternoon teas here in Charlotte, in Asheville at the Biltmore Inn, and at the Fearrington in Pittsboro, NC.
Before we even decided to stay at the Umstead Hotel & Spa, I knew I wanted to try out their afternoon tea experience. I’ve read about how wonderful the afternoon tea experience is at the Umstead, and I knew I wanted to enjoy it for myself during our stay.
During your afternoon tea, you see views of the hotel’s glass sculptures by famed glass artist Dale Chihuly and the hotel lobby while you enjoy your three course tea experience.
We started off our afternoon tea experience with a little amuse-bouche. Everything that I enjoyed during our tea was dairy-free, so it’s important to let the hotel know when you make your afternoon reservations if you have any food allergies.
Organic Chamomile Yuzu from Croatia/Egypt
First Course | Cucumber and Sprout Sandwich, Smoked Salmon with Capers, Chicken Salad with Nuts, Fig Cookie with Peanut Butter, Lobster Roll
Second Course | Cornbread with Blueberries, Coconut Cake
Third Course | PB & J Macarons, Chocolate Pot de Creme, Apple Crumble
The Chocolate Pot de Creme was my favorite dessert from the third course. The presentation was gorgeous and the dessert itself while full of chocolaty goodness wasn’t overpowering. I definitely want to try and recreate this delicious dessert for myself!
