One of things we enjoy while on vacation, is checking out some of the notable sites in whatever city we find ourselves in. Sea Island is part of what is known as the Golden Isles which are made up of several of Georgia’s smaller interconnected islands. Since both my sister and I have always had a love of avenues of trees, we decided to check out Sea Islands very own Avenue of Oaks. This particular avenue of oaks was planted by Anna Page King who inherited the Retreat Plantation on the southern tip of St. Simons Island. While the Avenue of Oaks once served as an entrance to the Retreat Plantation it is now the grand entrance to the Sea Island Golf Club.
From the moment you drive up and park your car on the side of the road, you can’t help but look up at the stately oak trees that have been around for 160 years in awe.
We decided to turn our little adventure into fashion shoot for the latest polka-dot dress I picked up from Loft. There was definitely a navy and white theme going on with my wardrobe for this trip, and I loved the chance to wear the new pieces that I’d bought before the trip. This dress was the cooler of the two, and it was a little on the chilly side.
The hat, while no longer available is one that I’ve taken to all of my spring/summer vacations the past few years. I love the style, and on warmer/sunnier days it offers enough shade to keep my face from freckling even more!
My sister, Ashley, who joined us for this trip was my ‘official’ photographer as I work on trying to be more comfortable in front of the camera. As an introvert, it’s not always easy, plus I tend to tense up as soon as I’m aware that a camera of any sort is pointed in my direction. To get some of the pictures for our vacation post we employed the ‘walk… walk… walk…and turn’ approach and it worked… most of the time.
The J Crew bracelet I’m wearing was a ‘surprise’ find at the our local J Crew Outlet store last year. It goes with pretty much all of my navy outfits that I wear during the spring and summer. The shoes are some of my favorite that I’ve purchased from Sole Society, and they actually stayed in my closet unworn until last season when I finally found the first outfit that they were perfect for. I’m definitely one of those girls who will pick up a piece and then look for the perfect accessories etc even if it takes a season or two before I can actually wear it.
