We started off our second day at the Chetola Resort in Blowing Rock, North Carolina with breakfast at the on site restaurant, Timberlake’s. I still remember coming to this restaurant on day trips with my mom, sister and grandparents growing up. The restaurant has changed so much since then, as they’ve both expanded their space and added a nice outdoor seating area which is a must for those lovely days in the spring and fall!
After breakfast we headed to Main Street to do a little light shopping before the Saturday crowds arrived along with the Tangier Outlets where I picked up some new dresses and necklaces that I’m quite excited about at the Loft Outlet store.
Tip: While on vacation many people like to pack in as many activities as they can. This leaves you feeling absolutely exhausted at the end of the day. We prefer to balance our activities with downtime enjoying the room. After all if you’re taking the time to stay somewhere nice, you want to enjoy where you’re staying as well as the destination.
While cooler than the previous day, we decided to get our game day started early, so after a few hour of shopping, we headed back to the room and ordered some lunch from Timberlake’s. They have the most epic Tarragon Chicken Salad Wrap, and the few times mum and I made the trip up last year, I ordered it every time. When you know what you like, just go with it!
Tip: If you love board games (something mum and I have recently gotten into, that my sister and bro-in-law have been enjoying for years) then definitely bring a few to play during your downtime at the hotel. We brought along a few new games, Last Will (based on Brewster’s Millions,) Code Names, and Menu Mash-Up.
You’re going to want to watch one of the You Tube videos about Last Will and read through the rule book well in advance of playing this game. It’s going to be a bit confusing until you’ve got the hang of it, but once you do you’ll love it. I promise!
Since getting the hang of this game and playing it out (it consists of 7 rounds total,) my sister and I headed into town to Mellow Mushroom to pick up a little dinner to enjoy with the rest of our gaming afternoon.
As I mentioned we also brought Code Names (which consists of two teams, red and blue and a spy master from each team.) Since we were only three players, one was the spy master while the other two were separate ‘teams’ I have to say that the hardest job is being the spy master, but it’s seriously good fun!
Last of all, we played Menu Mashup which excited the ‘foodie’ in all of us. In this game you work your way around the table, with one player being the diner and the others creating a menu from the cards they’ve drawn based on the card selected by the dinner. You’ll be laughing all through this one as you come up with tasty, and not so tasty menus hoping to be chosen as the winner of each round by the diner.
