On Friday morning, we got up early, eager to get on the road to our mini-break in the mountains. After a brief, but necessary stop by Starbucks, we began our trek to Blowing Rock, North Carolina.
Around lunch time, we stopped off at the Old Hickory Station for lunch on Main St. in Hickory, North Carolina. Jane (my sister) got the Margherita Pizza, Mum had the Romaine Salad and I had a Goat Cheese Pizza.
We arrived at Chetola shortly before check in time and were happy to find that the temperatures, although warm, were far below the extreme heat we’ve been having back at home. After we settled in our room for a little while, we ventured out again to walk on the lawn surrounding the water as they set up for the evenings event.
While the tents and tables were going up, we were the only ones there besides the workers, but within a few hours the entire lawn would be dotted with people looking forward to the highlight of the weekend, Symphony by the Lake.
We found a perfect vantage point to listen to the music, picked up our dinners and climbed up the hillside to our picnic table.
After dinner, we returned to our room to listen the symphony from there, and await the fireworks that would be shot off at the lake.
Stay tuned for more about our mini break in Blowing Rock, NC.
