If you’re looking for a garden tour in the Charlotte area, the Gardeners Garden Tour that occurs each April is something you don’t want to miss. Winghaven is nestled in the Myers Park neighborhood (which is also home to one of our favorite art galleries, the Shain Gallery) and it was created in 1927 by Elizabeth and Eddie Clarkson. Since then the Wing Haven Garden & Bird Sanctuary has expanded to include the SEED Wildlife and Childrens Garden and the Elizabeth Lawrence House and Garden.
In addition to Winghaven, the tour includes five other Charlotte area gardens whose locations change from year to year depending on which Charlotte gardeners have chosen to showcase their beautiful gardens.
If you look through the gate in the herb garden you’l be treated to a view of the wildlife. While I’m sure the seeds are meant as a treat for the birds, the squirrels and chipmunks were stocking up!
“Look mommy, there’s fish in there!”
One of the gardens just across the street from Winghaven was created by Amy Cole and is located on 301 Ridgewood Avenue. The house is currently for sale, and with this beautiful garden all ready to enjoy, it’s definitely worth considering if you’re currently in the market.
