A few weekends ago, the first of the September shows at the Shain Gallery opened. As I mentioned before, Sybil (the Shain Gallery’s owner) has a new show coming every two weeks through the end of year, so if you live in the Charlotte area come out and see new work by the artists that the gallery represents. This show featured new work from three of the artists: Gary Bodner, Casey Matthews and Craig Mooney.
Gary Bodner
Gary Bodner is the quintessential renaissance man. He is interested in everything from architecture to art and for the past twenty-five years, he has practiced medicine in Atlanta, specializing in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Reaching the pinnacle of achievement in all of his fields of interest is an ongoing, lifetime project. – Shain Gallery
Casey Matthews
My creativity begins with a constant state of awareness and appreciation for everything around me. I am always noticing patterns in nature and the way inanimate objects and shapes harmonize with each other. I’m inspired by color, how colors interact and react with each other, motion, flow, and organic repetition. My work is intuitive and process driven. I enjoy the drips and splatters – and the journey they inspire. – Casey Matthews
Craig Mooney
Craig Mooney makes paintings of dramatic moments and heightened emotionality that are known for being expansive and expressive. Though a representational painter, the artist incorporates a myriad of abstract qualities throughout his paintings. In his figurative work, Mooney romanticizes his subjects and presents them in an atmospheric lens that is best described as dreamlike. His paintings appear to be capturing a moment suspended in time. While his work feels familiar, it is not specific. Rather it is , on a very basic level, symbolism of what could have been, has been or will be… – Shain Gallery
The next show at the Shain featuring work from the galleries first photographer, Catherine Erb opens this Friday, September 21st. So, if you’re in the Charlotte area come out and show see the show from 6-8pm.
