Intentions – a thing intended; an aim or plan…
Whether you like to call them resolutions, goals or intentions, it’s always a good idea to have some sort of plan for the new year. I decided to go with the term ‘intentions’ because let’s be honest, resolutions/goals seem more like ‘mandatory’ and ‘you’ll hate yourself by December 31st if you haven’t checked off all your (insert preferred term here) for the year.’
Rather than coming up with some lofty intentions that are nearly impossible to follow through on, because life often gets in the way, and also depending on the intention it could take longer than a year to get yourself where you want to be, I decided to keep things simple for 2019.
Be more positive towards myself.
The phrase that you’re your own worst critic should be stamped across my forehead. I’ve found myself being more and more critical of myself (over the past year especially) and not only is this not healthy, but it gets in the way of creativity.
Don’t let comparison get in the way of inspiration.
This intention goes hand in hand with the first one. It’s an easy trap to fall into no matter what field you’re in, but in the blogging world it’s hard not to look at the more established bloggers and feel like you don’t quite measure up. What was once inspiring becomes a roadblock in your own road to success.
Practice more self-care.
Self-care can be your saving grace, especially if you have both your day job and another career on the side. I’ve become a little lax especially during the second half of 2018, and it really shows.
Exercise more.
At work I always take the stairs everywhere, park in the back of the parking lot to get more steps in etc… but once we start having more daylight hours, I plan to at least get a daily walk in after work to unwind a little. We also have quite a few new places opening up near us, including a new Pilates studio.

This one is a carry over from last year. I had great plans to start working my way through the books on my bedroom bookshelf, but by the end of the year I didn’t get very far. In fact I lost track of how many books I’ve started but never finished.
Long term // Blog Related Goals
- Connect more with my readers, and give you more of the posts you like to read.
- Once I have a more established following, create a weekly newsletter rather than a email going out every time I create a post.
- Building on the intention above, eventually have a custom redesign of the blog. (While what I have right now is the closest to my ideal look for the blog, there are quite a few features and tweaks that I would love to add. Plus it’s nice to have a layout than literally no other blogger has. I like to be unique whenever possible!
