“There’s something kind of heroic about being a bookseller.” ― The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry
The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry, is one of the books that come to life the moment you read the first page. The charming bookstore, Island Books located on Alice Island is owned and operated by widower, A.J. Fikry. Overcome with grief, he’s begun to hate his job, and then when he thinks matters can’t get any worse, his prized rare book by Edgar Allen Poe is stolen.
When Amelia, a young rep from Knightley Publishing shows up for her first meeting with A.J. she leaves behind a few of her favorite titles, about a man who found love for the first time very late in life. Not impressed, A.J. sends her away with no real intentions of ever buying any of the titles from Knightley.
Then something happens that changes his life forever. A two-year-old girl, Maya is left in the bookstore with a note that the mother wishes her child to grow up surrounded by books. At first, A.J. considers giving her up, but there is something about Maya that warms his cold heart. Shortly after welcoming Maya into his home for good, A.J. comes across one of the books that Amelia left for him, and thus begins a course of events that will change his life forever.
“In the end, we are collected works.” ― The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry
— Review —
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and although the ending had me reaching for the Kleenex box, as all books that truly touch your heart do, I definitely recommend giving this book a read. It only took me two nights to finish it from cover to cover!
