Love is like a beautiful flower which I may not touch, but whose fragrance makes the garden a place of delight just the same. – Helen Keller
A few weekends ago we had the opportunity to rediscover the gardens at Winghaven along with a few other gardens in the Charlotte area. I shared about the gorgeous home/garden in Eastover earlier this week, and today you’ll get a look at Winghaven. Located in the Myers Park neighborhood (just a very short distance away from the Shain Gallery on Selwyn Ave.) Wing Haven features three public gardens.
The garden was started by award-winning author and practicing landscape architect, Elizabeth Lawrence who moved to Charlotte in 1948 and began creating her garden before her home was completely built. In 2008, the garden was purchased by the Wing Haven Foundation from Mary Lindemann “Lindie” Wilson who had owned and cared for the garden for the 23 years she owned the home. Lindie kept the garden design and overall layout much the same as it had been in Elizabeth’s time there.
If ever there was an outfit that was made for exploring a garden (or enjoying a garden party) this outfit would definitely be it. I picked up this white eyelet dress from JCrew last summer, and I couldn’t wait to bring it out again to wear this season. From the silhouette to the way it fits this dress couldn’t be more perfect for a cool spring morning. JCrew released a similar dress this year, but it features short puff sleeves and a more modern silhouette.
I paired my dress with The Mule from Margaux in the most gorgeous shade of pink that as luck would have it paired just perfectly with the Ultrabraid Back Knot Floppy Sun Hat from San Diego Hat Company that is one of my newest additions to my hat collection.
To finish off my ensemble, and in honor of all of the beautiful florals we would see during our time in the gardens, I wore the Kiki Earrings from The Tiny Tassel. With the hat, statement earrings, and showstopping shoes I decided to forgo wearing a necklace with this look, but you could easily wear pearl studs and a pearl necklace with this outfit.
To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow. – Audrey Hepburn
There is just something so relaxing about walking through a garden on a deliciously cool morning. Even with other visitors in the garden, we would often find ourselves completely alone, allowing us to further appreciate the peacefulness of the place.
My extravagance is my garden – it’s the first thing I look at every morning when I wake up. It gives me so much pleasure. – Ina Garten
About The Mule
The Mule from Margaux gives you the look of a loafer, and the comfortablity of a slide. While the shoe is avialable with or without a bow, I love how the bow adds a extra touch of femininty to your look.
Sizing
As far as it fit, it’s suggested to size up 1/2 size. So I ordered The Mule in a 6 1/2, but I could have easily gotten away with a 6. If you are uncertain about you size, I’d suggest contacting the customer service team via chat, or setting up a virtual appointment.
