Spending a long weekend in the mountains is always a good idea during the summer months. You’re guaranteed to enjoy temperatures that are at least 10 degrees cooler and this year instead of staying in Blowing Rock we opted to for a VRBO in Boone.
While you’ll definitely deal with some serious uphill climbs that are literally out of some of my worst nightmares, and narrow winding roads, we really enjoyed our time in the Hounds Ear community. Our home for the trip ‘Willow Run’ offered spectacular views (both in rain and sunshine) of the mountains and the surrounding homes that dotted the mountains behind us.
The home also had a wonderful kitchen with all the dishes, tools and a full bar with beautiful glassware to enjoy during our trip. I had already planned out the meal I would be preparing during our stay along with recipes for my faux-jitos and mocktails that will round up the final selections for my summer drinks series. It has been so much fun coming up with delicious beverages to enjoy on the evenings/weekends throughout the summer and I’m already working on ideas for next summers drinks (and the possibility of a few for fall if anyone is interested!)
Tie Waist Dress (Loft, sold out, similar look here) // Grear Sandals (Sarah Flint) // Beaded Petal Earrings (Spartina 449) // Mika Cat-Eye Sunglasses (Anthropologie)
This Tie Waist LOFT dress that I picked up earlier in the spring season was the perfect choice for the just over two hour drive from Charlotte to Boone and the Grear Sandals really are perfect for travel. While the dress is no longer available, the Dolman Handkerchief Hem Dress, Flounce Halter Midi Dress and Mixed Media Flare Dress are all ideal options for traveling in comfort. I always choose my most comfortable outfits for driving, and a knit dress is always a good idea.
Comfortable chairs for cozying up in during the frequent rain showers during our trip.
A large couch is just across the way from these two cozy chairs along with the fireplace perfect for s’mores. The perfect rainy day activity!
On our first morning we recreated a version of the Ultimate Breadlover’s Brunch Board. I found the most luscious champagne grapes to add another touch of color to our board, and picked up the Almond Poppyseed Loaf Cake versus the Honey Cake that we’d featured on our last board.
If you’re planning on enjoying most of your meals in on your next vacation, breakfast boards, cheeseboards etc are always a crowd pleaser.
