If you’re planning on renting a VRBO or an AirNB while on vacation, bringing along a few activities to enjoy while you’re at your home away from home is always a good idea. Since we like to enjoy wherever we’re staying just as much as our destination city, we always like to plan an afternoon in.
Sarah Cray of Let’s Make Art was one of the teachers at the Watercolor Summit that we did last year (although I’m a bit ashamed to say that we haven’t fully completed our classes yet, but thankfully we have them for life). Sarah offers a variety of kits on her website, and given our passion for all things bee, we chose to do her Honey Bee Watercolor Paint Kit for our first official foray into watercolor.
All of the essentials are included in the kit (with the exception of the brushes that you’ll need to pick up from your local art supply store if you don’t have them already on hand.
Our VRBO had a wonderful bar area in the kitchen which provided the perfect seating area for our afternoon of watercolor painting.
Once we had our materials all laid out, we popped up the ‘Live Painting’ tutorial that Sara offers through her website and began.

Practicing our color values…
Working with liquid watercolors is a whole different ballgame in terms of creating the ideal color values, but we all agreed that we quite enjoyed working with the paints by Dr. PH Martin.
Midway through it was time to have a little snack so we would be able to keep to the positivity oath that we took before the live paint began.
Now to finish the eyes…
All finished…
