It has been years since I’ve had the opportunity to take a walk along a pier (in fact I can’t even remember the last time), so during our stay at the Cottages at Charleston Harbor, we were only steps away from one with views of both the cottages and the city of Charleston from our side of harbor.
With the weather going back and forth between sun and rain, I was glad that I thought ahead to pack for both any weather we might run into during our stay, and also preparing myself for the heat and humidity that are synonymous with the South during the summer season.
Despite the warmth of the day, the wind blowing across the pier was so much cooler than it had been the day we drove out to Sullivan’s Island. Our walk along the pier also gave me another chance to be close to the water. Although we live just up the street from a lake, I’m always happiest when we’re by the ocean.
Lace Sleeve Swing Dress (LOFT, old, Similar here) // Cream Packable wide bow SunHat (Tuckernuck) // Grear Sandals (Sarah Flint) // Sunnies (‘Vintage’ Talbots)
For those of you who are unfamiliar with the hot, humid weather here in the South, there are a few simple tips to staying cool and enjoying your time away. First, bring plenty of hats, second pack clothes made of light, breathable fabrics. The navy lace sleeve swing dress has been my go-to during the summer months since last year, and Loft made another version of the dress that’s still available in a few sizes this year. I love the comfortably design and the added feminine touch of lace on the cap sleeves. My third tip, bring several pairs of comfortable shoes. The Grear Sandals were the perfect option for walking along the pier, and exploring Sullivan’s Island the day before, especially with the blisters thanks to the pair of espadrilles worn earlier during our trip.

We were in Cottage 6 (Glorious Morning) at the Cottages at Charleston Harbor, but our walk to the pier gave us a chance to see Cottages 1 through 3.
