Breton stripe tops were once the official uniform of the French Navy and have continued to be one of the most beloved and iconic trends in French fashion. Having a selection of striped tops in navy/white and red/white has been a wardrobe staple of mine for many years. This French-inspired look was the perfect thing to wear when venturing out to the peony pop-up at our favorite French bakery, Copain, here in Charlotte.
My love of peonies should be quite familiar to those of you who often find yourselves here on The Avid Pen, and I even have a canvas-wrapped print of The French Peony by Georgianna Lane hanging above my bed at home. Our peony bouquets came from Red Maple Flowers, and they will be back in Charlotte in July, as well as making a stop or two in Charleston, SC so if you’re interested in checking out one of their pop-ups you can visit their Instagram @redmapleflowers
Striped Boatneck Top (Club Monaco, old, similar here) // Linen Pants (J. Crew Factory, limited stock, similar here and here) // Rays of Hope Necklace (similar here) // Perfect Emma (Sarah Flint) // Market Tote (Spartina 449)
Now for some details about my look… My top is a purchase from Club Monaco from several years ago and I’ve only recently started styling it with my favorite pair of jeans for a more casual look, and then with these lovely linen pants that I picked up a few months ago from J. Crew Factory. They are only available in two sizes now due to popular demand, but I’ve shared links for a pair of pants from Chico’s that are remarkably similar and a pair of cropped pants from Express.
My necklace is from Bryan Anthonys and I wear it pretty much daily. I love having a piece that really has that modern yet vintage feel to it and after years of looking for the perfect locket, I’m so happy to have finally found it.
Peonies, a new pair of shoes, and some delicious pastries is there anything better?
It’s true when they say that the shoes make the outfit. This is my first pair of Perfect Emma’s from Sarah Flint, and since I wear A LOT of navies, it was the obvious color choice.
About The Perfect Emma
The Perfect Emma is beloved by bloggers Krystal Bick (This Time Tomorrow) and Blaire Eadie (Atlantic-Pacific) as well as well-known personalities such as Amal Clooney and Alexa Chung. The shoe features a triple-dyed Italian suede upper and one of my favorite features, a Tortoise printed patent leather heel. The inset block heel, expanded toe box, anatomical arch support at 6mm of extra footbed padding guarantee your feet will be just as comfortable at the end of your workday as they were when you first stepped foot into the office.
In addition to navy suede, the Perfect Emma is available in Black, Taupe, and Merlot Suede, Chocolate Leopard Haircalf, and Sand Calf.
Sizing
This shoe should fit snug right out of the box but will widen over time. Since the fit is similar to the Natalie which I own in several colorways, I went with my usual size, 36EU/6US, and the shoes fit just right.
If you have specific questions about fit, I recommend scheduling a virtual styling appointment with a stylist for the best fit for you.
