Flowers are the music of the ground from earth’s lips spoken without sound. — Edwin Curran
Venturing out to the Duke Mansion on a glorious fall afternoon is a must for garden lovers in the Uptown Charlotte area. Open to the public on most days during daylight hours, these gardens are a beautiful way to spend an hour or two on a Saturday afternoon.
We always start off with the rose garden and wander around towards Jane’s Garden (aka the fairy garden), continuing our way around exploring the beautiful florals, and wildlife and if you’re visiting with littles, the play area is a must.
I wore one of the pieces that I picked up from Baltic Born, a brand that my sister introduced me to last month. The Marta Smocked Dress is perfect for a pairing with heels, or a pair of goldenrod bow mules if you plan on doing a bit of walking throughout the day. I paired the look with simple accessories, including the Catalina Bracelet from Gorjana that my grandfather gave me for my birthday earlier this month.
I brought along the book I’m currently reading, the first of a new series by the author of The Last Garden in England, Julia Kelly. For those who love an Agatha Christie-esque book, this one is definitely a book to check out.
“The garden reconciles human art and wild nature, hard work and deep pleasure, spiritual practice, and the material world. It is a magical place because it is not divided.” —Thomas Moore
“Everything that slows us down and forces patience, everything that sets us back into the slow circles of nature, is a help. Gardening is an instrument of grace.” —May Sarton
