One of our favorite ways to beat the heat is to head to the North Carolina mountains. While you’re closer to the sun (don’t forget that sunblock!) you’re guaranteed to have temperatures at least 20 degrees cooler. Our favorite go-to spot in Blowing Rock, North Carolina which is home to the Chetola Resort.
While this was just a day trip for us this time around check out the post from our stay last year here. We couldn’t have asked for a more gorgeous day. The maxi dress from LOFT I chose to wear for the trip couldn’t have been more perfect either. (Although I wish I’d remembered to put a little sunscreen on my shoulders!)
The entire outfit is from Loft with the dress, straw bag, necklace & sunnies from the current season and the shoes & hat from last. Don’t you just love how you can create new outfits from one season to the next with a mixture of new and ‘old’ accessories?
We arrived in town just before our lunch reservations and opted to head over to the Chetola Resort a little early to snag a coveted spot on the patio at Timberlake’s. You would be surprised by how quickly this patio fills up around the noon – 1pm hour when the weather is nice out.

After a leisurely lunch and a walk around the grounds, we headed over to Main Street were the mid-day shopping crowd was in full swing. Finding parking can be a bit a challenge (street parking is absolutely impossible during the lunch rush) we found a space in the two level parking deck near the BRAHM (Blowing Rock Art & History Museum) which was just a short walk uphill to Main Street.
Outfit Details: Dress (Loft), Bag (Loft), Necklace (Loft) – no longer available – similar here, Hat (Loft) old – similar here, Shoes (Loft) old – similar here.
The two churches on Main Street (on either side nearest the BRAHM Museum) offer an escape from the crowds and the landscaping and the architectural design of the churches themselves make you feel like you’ve escaped to Europe. The perfect end to the day…
