Planning a girl’s night in doesn’t have to be difficult, especially when you know exactly what you want to serve your guests. Keeping things simple with fine ingredients and various flavors that will tantalize the taste buds is always a good way to go. This particular wine and cheese pairings centers around three Garda DOC wines and Piave DOP cheese that make the most sophisticated pairing in terms of both flavor and quality.
While any of these wines and the delicious Piave DOP cheese would pair well with charcuterie, pasta dishes, salads, and light seafood dishes, I always like to go with a charcuterie board for cheeses that can be enjoyed as a table cheese.
The Wines
Bertoldi Garda Pinot Grigio
Since this Pinot Grigio is a delicate white wine, you don’t want to pair it with flavors that will overpower it but will instead enhance it. While I tend to pair wines with cheese and charcuterie boards, a light salad like this Pear Salad with Walnuts (perhaps with some Piave DOP shaved over the top) or a nice white fish would really complement this particular wine.
Le Mure Chardonnay Garda DOC
This Chardonnay comes from the Italian winery Azienda Agricola Ricchi in Lombardy. Another light and refreshing wine, this chardonnay would pair well with fish, and a particular favorite of mine, risotto.
Cuvee Maison Prendina Garda DOC
This bright sparkling wine comes from vineyards that enjoy fresh breezes from Lake Garda. As you enjoy your glass of wine, you can almost pretend that you are sitting at one of the tables at the Grande Hotel Terme restaurant L’Orangerie with breathtaking views of the lake and delicious Italian cuisine.
The Cheese
The Piave DOP cheese is an ideal table cheese. The flavor is deliciously creamy with just a bit of bite which any cheese aficionado should appreciate. The cheeses produced in the region are made from three cattle breeds native to the area, and 80% of the milk used to create these delicious Italian cheeses comes from local cattle. The cheese has been made the same way for generations, and the quality is exceptional.
In addition to enjoying this cheese on a charcuterie board, I would use it as a finishing touch on a risotto, a light salad with fresh seasonal fruit drizzled with olive oil. Whether you enjoy you cheese sliced, shaved and grated, this Piave DOP cheese is definitely one you’ll want to try.
