“To plant a garden is to dream of tomorrow.” —Audrey Hepburn
Gardens are such magical places, and these two gardens were my favorites. While the homes are next to each other, each garden and gardening shed exhibits its unique elegance and grace. The beauty of nature and gardeners ingenuity is displayed in blissful harmony.
Jardin un // Garden One
The first of the gardens was created by Laurie and Ned Durden who started their garden in 2004 and hope to continue in their beautiful garden haven for another twenty years. The garden located on a small narrow lot has been divided into ‘garden rooms’ which are filled with evergreen plants, and trees.
I love this unique way of protecting the peonies from the wildlife, although I’d imagine they don’t see the deer that we do in this more urban area.
Behind the blue door in a little room under the rose vines, lies a place where magic is created. This picture in and of itself tells a story, and I’m so happy that I was able to capture this exact moment and freeze it in time.
Jardin Deux // Garden Two
The second garden was started in 2017 by Hobby and John Sherman and the family enjoy it as an extension of their home. The garden which consists of two sections is divided by an allele of ‘Autum Rocket’ Cammelia and outlined by gravel walkways.
The use of lavender throughout this garden including the cushions in this cozy open area with it’s water feature were just a few things that I enjoyed about this particular garden.
“Help us to be ever faithful gardeners of the spirit, who know that without darkness nothing comes to birth, and without light nothing flowers.” —May Sarton
I’m looking forward to having a gardening ‘shed’ of my own someday underneath the screened-in porch where I can keep my gardening tools, favorite pairs of gloves, and new flowers and bulbs to be planted in the coming seasons.
“Everything that slows us down and forces patience, everything that sets us back into the slow circles of nature, is a help. Gardening is an instrument of grace.” —May Sarton
