When it comes to breakfast on the weekend, we like to create a special board from time to time. Last month it was a breadlovers board, and this months Weekend Breakfast Board featured delicious breads and pastries from some of our favorite local bakeries including a new one located in the South Park area, Copain Gatherings.
Of course Copain Gatherings is about so much more than pastries, you can get ready made dishes, fresh broths and meats, pastas, olive oils/balsamics and more. For our first visit we already had a concept in mind, but I can’t wait to go back and create a picnic with some of their delicious ready made dishes (and perhaps a repeat of the pastries that we enjoyed on this board because let me tell you they were EPIC!
First off you’ll recognize a favorite of ours from the Breadlovers Board. It’s the Cinnamon Cobblestone bread from Breadsmith. This is a weekly purchase from Breadsmith along with whatever other breads I’m obsessed with at the moment (right now it’s Rustic Italian and Honey White). Another thing to love about Breadsmith is you can pre-order your bread/pastries/pizza dough by 3pm the day before and then just drop by the following day to pick up your order. This is an absolute must if you’re having an especially busy week.
Next we popped over to the Myers Park area to Suarez Bakery located in the Park Road Shops. This month’s donut is Vanilla Chai which is so light and delicious. It’s not too overly sweet, which makes it an ideal choice for me, and the flavors of the cinnamon sugar on the outside and the delicious vanilla cream filling on the inside offer all the hallmarks of my favorite drink.
For the last two items on our board we picked up a box of Cherry handpies and a Pain au Chocolat from Copain Gatherings. I’ve literally been dreaming of either buying or making hand pies months now, and these hand pies were absolutely amazing. I loved how the flakiness of the crust balanced with the tart sweetness of the cherries. This was also my first time ever having Pain au Chocolat. Surprising I know from someone who is a francophile, but there’s a first time for everything.
