“From the sunsets of Santorini to the streets of Paris, get ready to Escape into the stories collected from our community that inspired this universal palette. With a mix of shimmers, satins and mattes, let these shades inspire your next escape and spark your wanderlust.”
There is a brand new eyeshadow palette available from my favorite place for all things beauty & skincare, Wander Beauty, featuring 10 new shades that are perfect for your everyday beauty routine. The palette was created in collaboration with 10 members of the brands ever growing ‘community of Wandresses’. Right down to the name of each shade every aspect of the Wanderess Escape Eyeshadow Palette has a story to share.
I checked in with co-founders Divya and Lindsay to get an inside look into how the idea for Wanderess Escape first began.
When did you first come up with the idea of working with influencers/Wander Beauty lovers to create an Eyeshadow Palette?
DIVYA: After we had created three seasonal, limited edition eyeshadow palettes in 2018 and 2019, we were hearing from our customers that they wanted an everyday palette that remained in our permanent lineup.
LINDSAY: As a brand, we co-create all of our multitaskers with our customers based on their feedback. This time, we decided to take an even more in-depth approach. Instead of dreaming up the shades on our own, we turned to our community through our summer 2019 pop up store and digitally and had them submit shade inspiration. We received thousands of entries and narrowed it down to 10 Wanderesses who ended up being the inspiration behind the 10 shades in the palette.
What was the best part about working with the women who created the eyeshadow shades included in the palette?
LINDSAY: For me, it was creating the content that you’ll see roll out over the coming weeks to promote the palette. They created their own looks, both at home and in our studio, and shared what this process meant to them. You can watch the launch video here. It was amazing to interact with these women face-to-face to hear what the brand meant to them in their own words.
DIVYA: During our 2019 pop up store, we created a living mood board in the store where you could come in and submit your shade inspiration. Seeing the excitement of each person who came in to add their memory and inspiration to the board was a highlight for me. We created the pop up store to be an interactive space to further build community, and that’s exactly what this activation did.
What sets this eyeshadow palette (and others available from Wander Beauty) apart from other eyeshadows on the market?
LINDSAY: In today’s world, we see tons of influencer and celebrity beauty collaborations, but it’s so rare to see the customer as the star of a campaign. Because Wander Beauty is so focused on the real, everyday woman, we wanted this palette to reflect her in every step, from conceptualization to execution.
Does Wander Beauty plan on working with Customers/influencers again on creating future products?
DIVYA: We are constantly polling and surveying our consumer through social media, email, customer service, and beyond, and we have a dedicated group of women including customers, makeup artists and influencers testing products before they ever go into production. Truly every one of our multitaskers is co-created with our community, but we look forward to highlighting individual Wanderesses even more in future product launches.
The women and inspiration behind the 10 shades of Wanderess Escape…
Moonlit
Lyndsay Rinere @lynzrin
The warm champagne shade, Moonlit is inspired by a special birthday trip to one of Lyndsay’s favorite cities, Paris.
Enchanted
Emily Boone @emily_boone
“All my bridesmaids wore dresses in different shades of mauve. Creating this shade (mauve purple) with Wander Beauty has been such a meaningful experience. I love that Wander Beauty is inspired by their customers and wants to share their stories.”
Flourish
Kylie Keller @kyliexann
Flourish is a beautiful orchid purple was inspired by Kylie’s trip to Cartagena with her best friend. When they reached their room on the top floor of their hotel, they opened the door to reveal a rooftop filled with bougainvillea.
Sunkissed
Rosa Castillo @rosaalexc
Rosa was inspired to create Sunkissed, a siena nude shade, because of the terra-cotta stone walls that contrast with the vibrant colors of the older homes in Cartagena.
Santorini
Alex Hoffman @alexlorenhoffman
Inspired by Alex’ travels to Santorini, Greece with her family and a photo she took right at sunset and ‘all the colors coming together to highlight over the ocean and create a gorgeous bronze tone.”
Nude Beach
Michaela Schnek @omg.olson
Nude Beach was inspired by Michaela’s wedding bouquet. The nude beige shade reflects the warm, earth tones of the Colorado Mountains in the fall.
Daydream
Ann Halloran @annhalloran
“My shade Daydream, was inspired by the soft peachy, warm part of a peony flower I saw last summer at a farner’s market in Provence, France.”
Stargaze
Juhi Laungani @wineandmakeupgal
“Stargaze was inspired by my culture. The gold shade signifies purity and is often associated with Indian culture. The experience of creating the shade has been so powerful to me as I indentify myself as an Indian American and my culture is a huge part of who I am.”
Sea Glass
Meagan Mallen @meganmallen
Sea Glass (in aqua blue) was inspired by Meagan’s memories from the year she spent living in Northern England. Meagan would often travel to the local seaside town and spend the day walking along the shore collecting sea glass that had washed up.
Overnight
Misty Ewing @mistyewing
Overnight was inspired by Misty’s favorite hair color, a dark cocoa brown. “This shade is one that will work with everything and looks great alone.”
