While Hurricane Helene brought catastrophic damage to Western North Carolina, I wanted to highlight a trip we took last month to Jeter Mountain Farms located in Hendersonville, North Carolina. While I don’t suggest attempting to travel into any part of Western North Carolina at the moment, with flooding and interstates (and in some cases, entire towns washed away), I do hope that some of you will be able to visit Jeter Mountain Farms once the roads open up again. It is a truly unique experience and the perfect outdoor activity for littles.
In early September, on one of the first cool days leading up to the fall season, we took the 2+ hour drive up to Hendersonville, North Carolina. Since our first trip to Jeter Mountain Farms there has been one change that we noticed as soon as we drove onto the property. They now have a mobile smokehouse (1812) where you can enjoy a limited menu of chicken salad, pulled pork sandwiches and Hickory Nut All Beef Hotdogs.
Since you really want to catch a tractor/wagon up to the apple trees before it gets too warm out, I definitely suggest heading over to the line up the hill from the main building/market to purchase your apple/blueberry/grape baskets and get in line.
This year we decided to skip the grapes which are on a very steep hillside, and opted for apple picking which is accessible only by tractor/wagon and once we got back my sister and I planned to head to the blueberry bushes just off of the tractor/wagon ‘depot’.
