One of the things I’ve been looking forward to for weeks now is creating a charcuterie board that is all about fruits we love to enjoy during the fall season. I love any chance to enjoy figs during their short second harvest season along with fresh citrus (seedless mandarins are so delicious and add such a nice pop of color to your board) and of course pears are one of our favorite fruits to enjoy this time of year. We’ve been enjoying Bosc (like the one we featured in todays board) along with juicy red pears that are literally a party in your mouth every time you take a bite!
This year really has been the year of charcuterie and boards inspired by various cuisines that are particular favorites of ours from the South of France inspired board that we created during a trip to Charleston and the Mediterranean board inspired during a trip to the mountains.
For those of you who have been following along for awhile, you’ll already know that we like to keep a selection of crackers, nuts and dried fruit on hand at all times. They are charcuterie board essentials and they also make excellent snacks when you find yourself with a sudden case of the munchies (which happens often in the cooler weather!) and it also means you just need to pick up your selection of fruits/veggies and meats/cheeses when you head off the store.
For this particular board I wanted to feature two sliced cheeses (chèvre and manchego) and you can find them already presleiced if you can find the trio of Spanish cheeses by Ponce de Leon (Fresh Market) and they also have them at Costco in a larger package. The trio features a chèvre which will just melt in your mouth, a manchego that is beyond delicious and then a third cheese that is made from goat/sheep and cows milk cheese for those of you who don’t have a cow’s milk allergy!
We also featured a spreadable goat cheese from our go-to brand CHEVOO. I was so excited to have recently won one of their recent Friday photo contests and we received a selection of 6 of their goat cheeses (both the marinated and the spreadable). We featured the spreadable Country Herb & Garlic with our Harvest Charcuterie Board. (Note: If you haven’t tried a cashew dipped in spreadable chèvre yet, just trust me. You’ll love it!)
As far as the meats, you can definitely see that I have a thing for Italian meats. Whole Foods as a variety of options for salami (I always go with a mild thinly sliced salmi which adds a savory flavor to your charcuterie board without being too overpowering and then a San Daniele Proscuitto which is absolutely divine!
Lastly for our crackers… I picked up two selections by the brand Paul & Pippa, and since we were going with a harvest theme I opted for the Basil/Quinoa/Olive Oil Crackers and they paired so well with the spreadable goat cheese. Pure herbaceous goodness and they have such a lovely texture too!
